Sarah's Silks offers premium play silks, blossom cloths, dress-ups, and wooden toys crafted from safe, natural materials. The radiant colors and soft textures inspire open-ended play where creativity flourishes. All dyes are non-toxic, environmentally-friendly, and contain no heavy metals.
Sarah Lee created Sarah's Silks after her son's daily requests: "Mom, I am a turtle today. I need some green to wear" or "I need blue wings to fly!" Starting with an old silk scarf that her son loved for its smooth, non-itchy feel, Sarah began dyeing silk squares to support his imaginative play.
This California-based, family-owned company imports sustainably-produced, hand-woven silks from a village near Suzhou, China. The workers—mostly women working from home—weave, dye, sew, and iron the silk products. Sarah's Silks pays above-average wages and provides incentives including supplemental health insurance for workers and their families
Pure Mulberry Silk
Sarah's Silks uses 100% pure Habotai (Mulberry) silk, the highest quality silk available. The fine, light fabric features natural imperfections that prove its authenticity.
Play silks use 5 momme weight for flowing movement, while illustrated items use heavier 8 momme silk for durability. Mulberry silk's natural proteins (Sericin and Fibroin) make it hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial.
Responsible Production
The silk comes from family farms where silkworms are hand-fed pesticide-free mulberry leaves. Long-term factory partners in Suzhou—a city renowned for silk culture—provide fair wages and quality working conditions. This partnership supports communities while preserving ancient silk-making traditions.
