STOCKMAR Watercolour Paints are known for their excellent clarity, natural transparency, light-resistance and scumbling properties. The colour range follows the extended version of Goethe's Theory of Colours. Each tone has been adjusted so that it can be mixed well with the others. Harmonious intermediate gradations and boundary-less colour blending are also possible when using the wet-on-wet technique.
They can be used with all usual watercolouring techniques. STOCKMAR watercolours are ideal for transparent painting and, when mixed with white, can be used for non-transparent painting. They are produced from gum arabic and the finest light-resistant colour pigments have a very high yield-value and remain completely water-soluble when dry. The colour tones have been chosen so that they can be mixed to yield all intermediate shades without losing their brilliance and intensity.
Tried and tested in art education at school and kindergarten, these non-toxic paints are long-lasting and remain completely water-soluble when dry.
The STOCKMAR Circle Paint colours are three unique primary colours (red, blue, and yellow) in the range that possess high spectral purity and transparency. With these three colour-circle colours, the complete Goethean Colour-Circle can be created.
STOCKMAR Lightfastness
STOCKMAR watercolour pigments are rated 7-8 on the Blue Wool Scale, the international standard for testing how a colour holds up under light - 8 being the top of the scale, showing no visible change at all. On the ASTM scale used across fine art materials, this corresponds to a rating of I, excellent lightfastness. It's a standard STOCKMAR has held since 1922, including in the diluted washes typical of wet-on-wet painting - which matters, since many lightfastness ratings are based on a pigment at full strength rather than watered down, and it's the watered-down wash that most wet-on-wet paintings are actually made from. NOTE: Cobalt Blue, Colour 19, is not suitable for use by children. Please keep out of reach of children and use by adults only. Due to the inclusion of pure cobalt pigment, the price of this colour is higher than our standard range, but we continue to offer it as it is an important artist colour.
